  • Act I Aria - Duke (Questa o quella)

    At a ball at the ducal court of Mantua, the hunchbacked jester Rigoletto mocks the courtiers who have been cuckolded by the immoral Duke, including Ceprano who encourages the other courtiers to join  him in  plot of vengeance against Rigoletto.

  • Act I  Duet - Rigoletto and Sparafucile

    In a dark street ouside his home, Rigoletto encounters Sparafucile, a professional assassin.  Rigoletto is intrigued by the cutthroat, but has no need of his services (at the moment).

  • Act I duet - Rigoletto & Gilda

    Rigoletto enters his own courtyard and here calls for his beloved daughter, Gilda.  They sing of their joy at finally being reunited, after so many years of her life in a convent.  Rigoletto warns her to remain concealed in their home.  She does not reveal to him that she has already fallen in love with a handsome young man she has encountered on her way to church.

  • Duet between Gilda and The Duke of Mantua

    The Duke appears as soon as Rigoletto leaves having bribed Gilda's nurse to admit him.  He remains hidden and after the nurse and Rigoletto leave he and Gilda sing an impassioned farewell.
